No More Hiding Out…. let’s Meet Up

hiding out

I’ve been hiding out!

Tweaking the website, fixing & re shuffling my life online. Convinced that if I can only get this part of my life sorted then everything else will fall into place.

When I first moved to Italy I vowed to re-connect my disconnected little family,  ‘learn Italian’ practice Yoga, walk each day, make friends, travel and create a simpler life. Years later and it’s still a work in progress and now I’m hiding out.

My inbox & facebook feed has been filled with “Life is Wonderful YAY isn’t everything just FAB” posts.

I have to say they drive me a little bit batty.

Of course I aim for my life to constantly be better, but it just reflects how far from reality it’s all become.

So there are a few things I would like to leave behind, namely hiding out!

Here’s my hiding out short list:

  • We have become addicted to our tech. (Our family can often be found online, (with Carina often having both her tablet and her mobile phone going at once).
  • I’m a slave to my online life. With my determination to ‘build my brand’ I’ve devoted all my time to my laptop. (There is always just one more thing that needs doing, learning, or sharing, & my online inundation seems worse than ever)
  • I’m craving  connection, but I rarely leave the house. (Why venture out when I have so much to do here?)

And that’s why I am making my life about Connection!

A time where I finally commit to getting out of my own shell and experience things, people, connection, community and most of all, myself, out in the real world.

I hope you’ll join me!
Comment below with times that work for you…. a Renovating Italy Meet Up Workshop, what do you say? Where have you been hiding out?

PS When I asked Luca which was his favorite day EVER he instantly replied ‘the day in the park with the bike, bestest day ever’

I often hide out but what I should be doing is getting out there. I am still looking for somewhere to live (nearly a year since I had to move out of my house) . I am trying to be so positive . But always get stuck and feel alone.. well I sm alone ..lonely. I will get there and so will you. Xx

Hi lovely 🙂 I’m so glad to hear from you – though I completely understand the need to hide out for a while. I had to do that too and it was good, really good, and necessary for my well-being. So happy you’re out and about now though. 🙂

Well I”ve had more skype chats the last week than I had all last year, I’m making it a habit to chat with at least a few people each week. Oh and going down to the bar for a coffee each morning, and actually getting out of the house. xx

Lisa, what a delicious inspiration your page is, here and on facebook, found you guys a couple of months ago as my husband and I are looking to make a move from the UK to Northern Italy in the near future, and Piedmont is one of our favorite places. We both have sore fingers from scrolling through property for sale in the area on a daily basis. Much looking forward to following your updates in 2018 and you never know one day we may even become neighbors!

Ciao Julia, Piedmont is just a wonderful place to live. We’re in Val Pellice at the foot of the Alps. Sam has helped a number of our readers with finding homes, and got them an ‘Italian’ price. If you ever want any help just let us know. Hope it all goes well for you both. Here’s to Italia in 2018 x

I am about to embark on two weeks annual leave….the last two of the school hols here in Sydney and I am determined that my two teenage girls and I reconnect and disconnect at the same time…..they are constantly in their devices, miss 13 more than anyone and she is fast becoming a recluse. We are not going away but we are going to rediscover everything this city has to offer…….I am determined. This is to hopefully set us up for a more IRL life as opposed to the proxy life on line……wish me luck!

Sounds perfect, and I totally understand what you mean about teenage daughters and phones. Wishing you lots of luck and I think that kids just want to spend time with us, so I bet your girls will love the time with you x

I can SO relate to wanting to live more of life OFFline. But when one has research to do and distant connections to make, I have to do my best to find an acceptable balance.

If you plan a meet-up between mid-October and Christmas this year, I WILL be there!!
