INSPIRATION
Did you see the new place?
Italian Rustic Home
No this is not our balcony, these are my inspiration photos for our Italian Rustic home. This is the image that will keep us slogging through the renovation. I can imagine our terrace looking just like this, sitting here reading a book and sipping a vino. Dining with friends and taking in the evening stars, it’s going to be gorgeous!
So this is the reality of our “new’ Italian Rustic house in Veravo, Liguria. Our next renovation and future home for a bit… just in case you haven’t seen the video at the start of our blog. Can you believe that these are the best of about a dozen photos my dear Amore took on his recent visit? There are also two from the agent.
So what do you think? Can you imagine yourself living here?
and the gang x
Heck, letter S is playing up. Sorry
I thought you were a spammer for a moment lol x
Found your blog and urely your project i very exciting. I hope you don’t mind me asking a couple of stupid quetions. We found casa rustico in Ligure. It is for ale for a song. But, being in the middle of nowhere, how does one go about running water and sever? Any idea of what a basic renovation from a similar condition you bought yours would cost per sq. m if we hire local to do mot jobs? Thanks and good luck renovating
Hi Victor, sorry really couldn’t tell you you’d have to talk with the commune. Unfortunately it’s not one size fit all, we talk with the locals and then have an idea of what to pay and who is reliable. Who is selling the property? They should be able to give you a rough idea of costs and where to start. hope this helps x ciao lisa
Hi Lisa,
just stumble about your blog. Amazing. We are looking for a ‘project property’ to renovate.
We are from Australia, but are now in London. My husband’s family is from Calabria, although they have been living in Australia ‘forever’… I just thought it all sounded pretty crazy similar!
I will keep on reading your amazing adventure, learn and get inspired by your experience. I’m sure it will keep us motivated! And if ok, I might even get advise?
Ana x
Wow Ana what a small world, where were you from in Australia? funnily enough I also lived in London for a few years in West Sussex. My husbands name is also Chiodo and his Dad is from Soveria Manelli. I showed him your comment and he said wouldn’t it be funny if we were some how related. Look forward to getting to know you and would be happy to give you any advice you need, ciao Lisa x
I am so happy you stopped by my blog Lisa so I could find yours. This is mind boggling to me but I’m cheering for you! Can’t wait to watch the progress.
b
It gets a little mind boggling for me also Barbra sometimes I just stand back and shake my head! We don’t seem to have done anything in a ‘normal’ way and we laugh that our kids won’t be out of the nest until I am in my 60’s, they are 8 and 10 now so many years to go. I’ll pop by your blog again soon as I loved the feel of it and all the great info for aspiring writers LOL x

theo
Hi Theo we are starting mid next year and I can’t wait yahhhhooo!
ciao lisa x
It sure looks like a big job but the view is spectacular!! I’m intrigued by your family’s story; my husband is from Sicily, we know and love it (and Calabria) well. Further north, not so much, so look forward to seeing and hearing lots more about Liguria!
What a small world it is, I also love Sicily and Calabria as this is blood that runs in our children. I’ll keep you up to date with Liguria x
It looks such a wonderfully exciting project and I can absolutely imagine it. I know it wil mean some hard work and suffering – but I would love a project like that. All the best with it.
Hi Hazel how wonderful to see you here, I know you are certainly up for a project! What an incredible life you lead! I have been to the Chelsea flower show once many years ago, my husband has just had the first of his community gardens opened. Thanks for your kind wishes!! ciao lisa
This is such an exciting project Lisa…. it reminds me of what we tackled in France… Ours was neglected and unloved with no infrastructure… It was a huge task but a labour of love. I think you must feel the same… xv
Wow what a project. I can see the finished project. It is going to be beautiful!!!!!
I can see it also Amy, and we are full of ideas!
ciao Lisa x
Yes I can imagine living there – its gorgeous – well it will be – good on you!
I think it will be a long work in progress, this one could be home for quite a while…plenty of room for visitors to stay.
ciao Hazel
Lisa
That sure looks amazing – I so would love to live in Italy and renovate a house 🙂
Actually…we should try and come over one time for a visit. That would be a blast – Dave can help your hubbie and we can spend time exploring the gorgeous area of your amazing new house! Love following your journey of Italy and how much you change a place!!
Cheers
Lisa
Lisa that would be amazing! Watch out it’s addictive! I’m sure we could give the guys some time off for good behavior.
I can’t wait just to wander the alleyways of Veravo, the kids will be lost for days. It is a tiny village so they will certainly know when
the Australiani arrive. Maybe see you in 2012?
ciao lisa
I’ve been loving your blog from afar for a while now. Today my husband told me he would just love to renovate a house in Italy and I showed him your blog, I figured it was time to stop in and introduce myself. 🙂
Hello there!
Angela
Wow Angela just been over to your blog and feel like I’ve known you forever! There must be a million and one things we can help you with… we had none of your problems with documents but I know a lot of expats who may be able to help with that. As for the renovating there is nothing better, lots of twists and turns which we have often worked out the hard way. (think you know about that!) Tell your hubby to dream big…. it’s worth all the struggle you have been through!
ciao bella
Lisa
It will be beautiful 🙂
Thanks I just love these old homes in such ruin, I imagine them restored and full of life again. I just know it will be gorgeous when all done, a bit of work first.
ciao lisa
Oh My God! Its beautifull, you didnt describe it to me well enough this afternoon. I cant wait to stay in the guest bedroom hahaha.
Gareth
Gareth you are welcome anytime, you would love it!!
ciao lisa
Hey Mudguts You certainly subscribe to Peter Brocks philosophy of “bite off more than you can chew, and then chew like crazy”Go for it, and love to see the end result.
You know me lets renovate a house “NUMBER 11” that is, does it really matter where it is? At 400+ years old its slightly older than the one I am renovating in Brighton HA HA. We decided that if we are going to renovate we may as well do it looking over the Italian Riviera and when I have had enough we will take day trips to France and Switzerland rather than the Gold or Sunshine Coast (not that there is anything wrong with that) The added bonus of renovating in Italy is that at lunch we can sleep and no one will tell you off. So when are you coming???
Come on, come and have a Chianti on our terrace some day, oh and bring your tools after sleep we have to go back to work WAKE UP!! ah what a life talk soon.
Sambo
Beautiful, superb, glorious, incredible..all the superlatives….what magnicent spot! Good luck the reno and I look forward to seeing the progress pics.
Jen
Hey Jen, amazing place isn’t it, I haven’t seen it yet Sam bought it on the last day of his trip to Italy house hunting.
Great to have you along… any time you are in Italy you know where to come!
ciao Lisa
We plan to live in Italy for good when we come to renovate our house in May. Looking forward to it, lot’s to do before we leave…
ciao
-Lisa
Hello, I love the images so much you can do. I also plan to move to Italy as well, right now I’m also looking into buying a place I can fix up. I’m looking for something that dates back to the sixteenth century. I also see that a lot of supply’s here in the USA might have to be ship over there. Well good luck with everything I know you will be so happy with the out come 🙂
Hi Graziana,
Lovely to meet you, there are plenty of properties in Italy that need some fixing up. There are many things that are not available in Italy that may be in America. There always seems to be an “Italian” way around these, wish you happiness in your search and would love to hear how you are going with it all.
ciao for now Lisa
Sorry Graziana, I’m still getting the hang of replying to all the comments. Hope you find your dream home in Italy. There is a strong expat community in Italy which can help with sourcing things you miss from the USA. Thanks for your kind wishes, ciao for now Lisa
Hi Lisa,
Do you only live in Italy while the renovation is going on?
Hugs
