Well we have now had our gorgeous home in Brighton on the market for around 3 months and NOTHING!
A few tiny nibbles but no bites! To say we are disappointed would be a huge understatement, so we had our week of moping and feeling down and that’s over. The property market here in Australia is flat as a tack. So we are stuck for a bit, we think we will keep the house for sale for another few months and then take it off the market until early next year.
One of the funny things I can share with you all is we gave away ALL our furniture and most of our belongings. So we had the house “dressed” with hire furniture (and it looked stunning) but we had to give it all back last week.
So are we sitting on the floor?
No, we had to race around to find more furniture including beds, bedlinen, lamps, bedside tables really just everything. All this in a few days to be ready for the next open for inspection. We hit Ebay, Op Shops, friends, and discount furniture shops to redress the house to some of it’s former glory.
It feels ridiculous to be buying furniture again when we plan to be here short term.
Of course everyone is asking us “when are you leaving?” and we are asking ourselves the same question.
The only one who seems happy we are staying short term is my Mum. She keeps saying things like “never mind” and “why don’t you just stay here?” sorry Mum I can’t I have gypsy blood and won’t ever stay in one place for long.
So we continue on our adventure, not quite to plan but isn’t that what life is about…. our house in Italy is waiting for us to arrive, I can’t wait to meet her….
and the gang x
Oh no Lisa, sorry about that… its seems to be a global thing sadly, mine here alongside others arent shifting.
Would you like me to send u a cushion to sit on? 😉
Susan
Hi Susan, yes a cushion sounds like just the thing! Do you have many properties for sale? I am loving your site, I am sure many people dream of a Tuscan village. ciao Lisa
Me again to thankyou for your lovely comment on my sunset post, are you aware you have your setting to comments you make as no reply. 🙁
Hi again, not sure what you mean, I would love to fix this as I love being able to reply on other blogs. Could you tell me a bit more… will try to work out how to fix it up. ciao for now Lisa
Dear Lisa, I have my fingers and toes crossed for you. Best of luck! I hope your phone rings a lot for the right reason really soon.
Paola
PS. I do like the story about your furniture though!
Hi Paola,
Thanks so much for that, many toes and fingers crossed at the moment. We have a way outside the box idea going on at the moment with a friend of ours so we may make it sooner rather than later with some luck.
Isn’t it a hoot having to give all the furniture back…. and I also gave away most of our belongings to the school so might have to beg them for some of the kids DVD’s back. Went to make cupcakes today and then remembered I gave the tray, icing sugar and all the food colors to the school.
At least it’s giving us some laughs and who knows what the future will bring…I hope it’s Italy and soon!
ciao bella
Lisa
So you’re going to be able to hang on to the house in Italy for now? Hope so. The owners of that house probably don’t expect anyone to offer to buy IT, either, so will wait?
Hi Caterina, we should still be able to buy the house in Italy, just wont be able to get there to see it for a bit. We have a biggish deposit on it and they have kindly extended the settlement once already so the due date can’t be extended again. If we don’t pay the balance we loose our deposit and also have to start the process of looking all over again when we do get to Italy. Not sure how we can do all the paperwork when we will be here, it must be possible.
thanks for your kind thoughts
ciao lisa
So sorry to hear your sale is not progressing well, it would be a shame to take it off the market though, in a flat market a buyer will still come along but it takes longer. Wishing you luck.
Hi Lindy Lou, it has been a bit of a shock for us, we haven’t had this happen before. We have something in the works that may enable us to get to Italy but nothing definite yet so won’t share that bit. Each time the agent rings I get a little ray of hope and then nothing. Not to worry we will get there eventually and our “pile of rocks” will be waiting for us to transform her into a home. Thanks so much for your wishes they mean so much to us!
ciao Lisa
