MOVING TO ITALY
Time to Say Goodbye
but the most important thing is, even if we‘re apart… I’ll always be with you.”
A.A. Milne
There is a time in every dream where it becomes a reality, that time was today. It looks like we will be heading off to Italy in the next thirty days or so. Now I could talk to you about lists and packing and what to take on the plane but all I can thing about right now is that we will have to say goodbye.
Speaking to my Mum a few nights ago, I told her don’t worry we’ll be down to see you soon and we’ll stay for a week and she replied “Yes but that’s because you’ll be leaving, I don’t want to think about that just yet.”
So soon it will be time to say goodbye to Family and friends, to the kids at school and all the mums I’ve gotten to know so well. For our daughter this will be a big wrench, she has a very special friend at school that she will miss so much.
And even though I don’t see my family as often as I’d like it helps to know we are in the same country and only a few hours away by plane. This time will be easier, we will have the internet and Skype, things have progressed since our last trip.
But my Mum…..she will be broken hearted and fighting like crazy to hide it!
There will be goodbyes and tears all round…
and the gang x
Oh wow – when you put it like that, it makes me want to cry! It is saying goodbye that is the hardest. Maybe your Mum can go to Italy and visit? We will have to try and catch up before you go? I never realised it was so soon….amazing to read about your journey and your dreams coming true.
Cheers
Lisa
PS – good luck with the packing! That is the bit I dont like the best 🙂
Yay it is all happening then, so exciting for you. I do understand how hard the goodbyes will be, just make sure your Mum is connected to Skpe before you leave. That is the one thing we sadly never did got our parents online.
Hi Linda, yes we are excited I almost won’t believe it until we are on the plane. My Mum still uses a passbook for her banking, she refuses to have an EFTPOS card and has been learning to use the computer for the last five years yet still asks how to turn it on. We will set up something so we can call her each day like we had the last time we lived in Italy. I think the only way we can keep her up to date is to have other family members show her our fb page when they visit. I’d love her to see what we are all up to each day and be part of it all as it happens.
Are your parents still with you? Even with the old fashioned snail mail when we were there in 2005/06 we were able to stay in touch but Skype would have been fantastic. My Mother in Law will be on Skype and the rest of the family as well. We hope to create something for the school as well so the kids can stay in touch with their classmates as they all progress through school. Lots to organise before we leave…. you know what it’s like!
sending love ciao Lisa
You are so brave doing all this with young kids Lisa. What an amazing experience for them! They will thank you, if not now, then eventually, for the way you will open up their life possibilities. Mothers always struggle between wanting to keep their children close and letting them go on their adventures (like your mother will). You are lucky with the Internet these days. I think of when my parents left Italy to come to Australia, my mother a 22 year old, olny being able to wrote letters to her mother back in Trieste.
Best of luck with your goodbyes!
Hi Paola, I can’t even begin to imagine what it was like for your parents. Such a young age to leave all they knew for a country so different to their own. I know my Mum will be okay, I just wish I could go without causing her pain. I am sure one day my own children will be off to explore the world and I will be the one waving them goodbye, and hiding the tears. The struggle of motherhood… it never stops. I know our kids will love the world and all it holds (good and bad), I can’t wait to watch them discover all its wonders.
ciao bella
